Like the successful EXIT games, "Escape Tales – The Awakening" is based on the principle of escape rooms. Unlike EXIT, however, "The Awakening" is not about ending the game as quickly as possible. Instead, the focus is on a gripping and dark backstory: The single father Sam has to watch as his 14-year-old daughter Lizzy falls into a coma. So, in all his desperation, Sam decides to save his daughter with a sinister ritual. Players solve puzzles, combine different items with each other, and make decisions over and over again that will significantly change the story and the outcome of the game. Seven different variations of how the story ends are possible. The game is supported by an app.
